A Confused beginning

I have always thrived on writing as writing has been my professional hobby! Well, writing has been my hobby since my childhood and since 2010 I have been trying to earn my bread and butter through it. Hence, I call it as my professional hobby.

Writing is a tedious affair. I am happy to be in this affair. The problem arises only then when the ‘other’ comes between me and my writings, putting everything in a state of chaos. The other being- ‘writer’s block’! Getting rid of the block’s clutches is really tough, tougher than being in affair with writing. Sometimes it drains me out completely and puts me in a position from where all I witness is pitch black darkness…

So, why have I penned down the above lines? May be I am trying to sound smart and intelligent and in a most clever way, trying to shield my incompetency of being not able to jot down anything and something meaningful?

Decoding Confusion

Well, the problem is actually my roving mind. For the past few weeks it has been switching from topics to topics. From India’s loss at the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan to the selection of the new coach of the Indian cricket team; from floods in Assam to the demand for a separate Gorkhaland and to the most recent incident where Assam Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma summoning several school headmasters and questioning with a pointed finger about the reasons for the non-performance of their respected schools in the matriculation repeatedly for years, my mind is trying hard to fix the gaze and concentrate and pen down some powerful words. But…{ (-_-) }

Pakistan played better cricket and so they defeated India in the Champions Trophy final. Ravi Shastri was better than his counterparts and so he was selected from a pool of five players who had applied for the post of the Indian cricket team’s coach. Governments since independence have failed to address the flood situation of Assam in a scientific manner and so Assam has been reeling under flood waters for ages.

Getting Carried Away

Dr Sarma has been entrusted with the responsibility of cleansing the education system and hence he has the right to question the gurus if the schools they are teaching in have not been performing to a certain level of expectation. Now, it is a different issue whether or not the government has helped these schools with the basic amenities like a proper school building, teaching aids, proper roads leading the schools, timely supply of books and every other single thing that a government funded school should receive from the government.

So what if the government schools are devoid of a proper building and the teachers are paid below par, the teachers should impart the best of education.

So what if Minister Sarma has been the boss of the education department for over a decade and a half and as a minister he has failed to take any revolutionary step to revive the education scenario, the headmasters’ should, however, always be on their toes and give their best- ignoring the least that they have been receiving from the government for a long period of time.

The education department’s corruption list begins from the top and goes down to the bottom- the teachers being at the bottom most level. But who would question the top brass when the minister himself is at the helm.

Now who would ask the minister a question when the other department, of which he is the minister, is functioning in the most pathetic way? I mean the Guwahati Development Department. An hour’s rain and the most of city get flooded! Around 99 per cent of the roads/by-lanes/lanes of the soon-to-be smart city are either full of potholes or are filled with knee-deep mud.

Well, that is a different story and I should not be writing about this at all. Writing is a tedious affair, and writing about it is not good at all.

Back To Confusion

Recently I wrote an advertorial for a reputed institution of Guwahati and from them I got to know the proper way of writing.

“Share information from our website”, they said and after the article was completed with information gathered from their website and shared with them for a recheck, all they had to give in return was a set of corrections and most of the corrections were about information that was collected from their website.

I wonder who wrote for their website. May be a confused soul like me? Or maybe she was someone who might have had a breakup and was five pegs down while compiling the information. Or maybe the one who corrected her content was someone who has had a big fight with his wife in the morning.

Or maybe someone who might have had an affair with writer’s block and they were not loyal to their partners.

As a writer, be loyal to your writing and never ever, ever never, get too intimate with writer’s block.
